Red Hat

In collaboration with Paula Scher’s team at Pentagram, MCKL created a new word mark and custom typeface for Red Hat, the North Carolina-based Linux distributor and provider of open-source software.

Redaction is a custom typeface commissioned for Titus Kaphar and Reginald Dwayne Betts’ The Redaction exhibition at MoMA PS1. As part of a timely conversation at the intersection of history, the legal system and social justice, the fonts will be free for personal use. Designed in collaboration with creative director Forest Young.

PLINC Trillium

PLINC Trillium is a Photolettering restoration font that I worked on with Ken Barber at House Industries. Trillium is inspired by inscriptional stonecarving, lettering like on the famous Trajan Column. But with a healthy dosage of 1970s photostat technology just for fun. The original font was just black and white, but we've stripped it into left, right, and outline layers for multi-color applications. Just released as a full font, you can license Trillium for desktop, web, and app usage.

We were happy to help our friends at Collins prepare Kernit for release. Inspired by the Jim Henson studios, Kernit is an expressive and exuberant typeface. Collins has generously made Kernit available for free download.

Specter is the latest addition to the MCKL library of typefaces: a constructed sans with sheared terminals, a friendly lowercase, true italics, and special inline styles.
