American Institute of Architects is the premiere professional organization of architects in the United States, and the largest association of design professionals of any discipline. MCKL partnered with Pentagram to create a typeface to support the rebranding, coinciding with AIA’s 160th year. The custom font uses contrast as a metaphor for architecture. Starting with the hariline serifs on the uppercase I, we bend shapes and place thins in places that serve the design.
In 2016 we added a serif companion font for long reading as smaller sizes, and created italics for all the styles.
